to Little Italy with..
Plantfre’s Pineapple Carpaccio!
You may be asking, “What exactly is Capaccio?” This Italian Hors D’ oeuvres is a classic go-to for parties and soirees.. because it usually consists of slices of meat with thick sauce on the side, we have Plantfired it up to be a delicious fruity treat. Here’s a little interesting history on how it came to be called Carpaccio:
Carpaccio was proposed with this name for the first time in Venice, at the time of an exhibition dedicated to Venetian painter Vittore Carpaccio which took place around 1950. But why? The dish was invented and popularized by Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry’s Bar in Venice. He originally prepared the dish for the countess Amalia Nani Mocenigo when he learned that the doctors had recommended that she eat raw meat (Glad we’re not living in that day and age!) The dish was named “Carpaccio” after Vittore Carpaccio, the Venetian painter known for the characteristic red and white tones of his work.
Now I’d like to talk a bit about some of the amazing healthy benefits found in Plantfire’s Pineapple Carpaccio!
Pineapple – They are second, only to bananas, as America’s favorite tropical fruit! Did you know that Pineapples are a team effort? They are the composite of many flowers whose individual fruitlets fuse together around a central core. Each fruitlet can be identified by an “eye,” the rough spiny marking on the pineapple’s surface. Pineapples are a great natural anti-inflammatory fruit, they support the immune system, and protect against macular degeneration!
Basil – From busting stress to clearing your skin, this herb has some serious mind-body benefits. Did you know basil is related to peppermint? I bet that is a great smelling family reunion! Basil provides DNA protection, anti-bacterial properties, and nutrients essential for cardiovascular health. Ladies, when that time rolls around each month Basil is an amazing source of iron and can really kick PMS in the butt. Basil is packed with vitamins K, A, C, B6, Iron, Calcium, Fiber, Maganese, Tryptophan, and Potassium.
