In this week’s Meatless Monday recipe we have the the spookiest treat to date! Overcome the urge to partake in candy, cakes, and caramel covered EVERYTHING, this season! Equip yourself with a snack this is just as delicious as it is fun 🙂


Ghost PopsNow you may be thinking, “But.. Why is Halloween candy so bad? It’s a once a year thing, we’ll only have a few pieces!”

Did you know that just 1 candy bar slows your digestion down for up to 6 hours? What happens when your digestive track isn’t working at it’s full potential? The sugar processes at a dangerously slow rate and causes side effects such as a weight loss blocker and immune system deficiency. It’s often thought that the weather is the main culprit in winter time colds and flus, but unhealthy sugars are to blame.

Now let me detail out why this recipe is the perfect solution to your Halloween candy woes:

Banana – Speaking of digestion, did you know that bananas are huge aids to healthy digestion? Make a complete 180 with your digestive track by choosing bananas over candy. Bananas combat depression, make you smarter, cure hangovers, relieve morning sickness, protect against kidney cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and blindness.  Bananas are packed with potassium which makes them the optimum choice for your muscle benefit, as well as energy boosters to the extreme! They can even cure the itch of a mosquito bite and put a great shine on your shoes.

Vegan Chocolate Chips – After “Where do you get your protein from?”, one of the most common question asked of Vegans is, “What about chocolate? Is chocolate vegan?” To help with your shopping list for this recipe here are a few vegan chocolate chip brands:

  • Endangered Species Dark Chocolate (most, but not all flavors)
  • Sunspire and Tropical Source (chocolate chips and chocolate bars)
  • Whole Foods Brand Chocolate Chips
  • Whole Foods Brand Dark Chocolate, and Dark Chocolate with Almonds
  • Dagoba
  • Plamil Organic Vegan Chocolate (fair trade)
  • Terra Nostra Rice Milk Vegan Choco Bars
  • Sjaaks
  • Bug Bites

Bananas (1 banana makes 2 ghosts)
1 cup Vegan Chocolate Chips
1 cup Unsweetened Shredded Coconut
1/3 cup Raisins
1 cup Dairy Free Vegan Yogurt
1 pack sticks

Instructions

1. Cut banana in half.

2.  Inject the stick (popsicle stick will also be nice to use) in the banana.

3. Spread some yogurt into the banana.

4. Spread some unsweetened shredded coconut in the banana.

5. Use the chocolate chip (vegan) as eyes, make sure to stick the pointed part in the banana.

6. Use raisins as the mouth.

7. *Optional (You can freeze the banana before creating this recipe)

8. You can also be creative in this recipe, like the girls did!

    For all of my friends, this is an easy and safe recipe for your young children and grandchildren to help build their confidence in the kitchen, minimal supervision required. When they are all done they have a healthy treat that they can eat and serve with pride!

It’s great to partake and have a blast without pumping their bodies full of processed sugar which only slows their digestion and weakens their immune system!!
