Are you a good receiver?
“I love your outfit….You reply… This old dress?”
“You have the cutest hairstyle…You reply…Thanks, but it’s such a mess right now.”
“Oh you shouldn’t have…I told you not to get me anything.”
“You look fabulous… have you lost weight…You reply…Oh my Gosh no…I think I have actually put on a few pounds.”
Sound familiar? I can’t tell you how many times I have had a rebuttle when giving a compliment…It’s as if I am saying … You really shouldn’t think I am that great because…When receiving a genuine compliment it’s no time to start a debate … Joyfully accept and receive. For many of us, giving is a whole lot easier than being a gracious receiver. We can often feel uncomfortable accepting gifts or kind words. The saying may go that it’s better to give than receive….But if we don’t work our reciever muscle, we unintentionally belittle the giver. No matter how uncomfortable you may feel accepting a gift or praise, allow the person giving to experience the awesome feel good juice that comes when giving is expressed. Practice saying this short, powerful and sweet two word response… “Thank You” …and allow yourself to fully feel the delicious feelings of being loved/liked that are created when we are given a compliment or gift.
Whats the best compliment/gift that you have ever received? How did you respond? Please leave your comments below!
Beautiful healthy hugs,
